Come and Watch Our Roots Grow

MONTESSORI PHILOSOPHY

Maria Montessori (1870 – 1953) was a scientist, educator and physician. She wrote, “The most important period of life is not the age of university studies, but the first one, the period from birth to the age of six. At no other age has the child greater need of an intelligent help, and any obstacle that impedes his creative work will lessen the chance he has of achieving perfection.” She believed children acquire self-discipline gradually through non-competitive activities. She created learning materials that children could play with and manipulate. Over time this play develops the child’s ability to concentrate, lengthen attention span, fine-tune small motor skills and enhance knowledge. She did this by dividing materials into four major areas that now make up the curriculum that we use at Taproot.

TAPROOT’S PRIMARY GOAL

To provide children, between infancy and six years of age, a stimulating social and safe learning environment where parents can confidently entrust their children for education with extended care available. The name Taproot evolved from the term taproot… the taproot is the first support root established in the ground as a plant is growing (a carrot is the taproot). If this root is weak the plant will be fragile, if this root is strong, like a child’s self-esteem, the plant and/or child will be strong. Come watch our roots grow!
